The Ancient Footpaths of Kyoto: Seeking Solitude in Quiet Bamboo Groves

Arashiyama is famous worldwide, but the main asphalt stretch often gets noisy. However, just behind the active temples lie forgotten mossy paths lined with ancient tall bamboo that sways with an organic rustic creak.

We trace these earthen routes in the misty early morning hours, listening to the hollow rustle of wind through the green canopy. Our guide walks us to a small hillside stone teahouse overlooking the emerald Katsura River.

Here, we enjoy warm whisks of stone-ground matcha and appreciate the beauty of silent forest bathing (Shinrin-yoku) far from the city grid.
